My students need a color printer to add enhancements and vibrant elements into their school day. They also need the cartridges, card stock, and some insurance as well!

My Students
"Disability is a matter of perception. If you can do just one thing well, you're needed by someone."
Martina Navratilova
I have 14 exceptional high school students in a self-contained functional academic classroom. They all have a variety of different needs, but each and every one is unique.
The students in my classroom consist of 10 males and 4 females.
We are in a self-contained TMD classroom which means our students have a variety of different disabilities. Three students reside in wheelchairs. Four have toileting needs such as wearing diapers or pull-ups. Two have to be fed. All are exceptionally amazing in their own unique way. I am thrilled and honored to be their teacher. The challenging aspects of educating this class are that there are so many different instructional levels jumbled into one classroom. While behaviors are not a concern for me at this time, making sure each student is progressing at an appropriate rate is. That being said, I have to use a large variety of different instructional tools and technology to help them succeed. Some are reading at the 8th grade level, some doing multiplication, some who go out and work in the community, and one that is completely blind and cannot read Braille. The diversity in this classroom and the school is incredible.
My Project
I make a lot of my own assignments and worksheets and having having this printer and ink to print them be in color would bring them to life and increase the students' motivation to work with them. For example, it is difficult to teach coins when I print in black and white. I use a lot of color sorting activities also with my non-readers, and it would be beneficial to be able to print out my resources in color so that they could master this skill. Laminating and printing things out in color are crucial to the students in my classroom. I print out schedules for some of my students who have difficulty transitioning also and having some of those elements printed in color will help them to envision it in a better way. Labeling things around the classroom is also important to some of my students who are working on being more independent. Printing these labels on colored card stock will make them more appealing to the eye and help the students to feel more at home in the classroom.
Our students use communication devices to communicate their wants and needs because a lot of them are non-verbal.
These devices use pictures to display different vocabulary that is relevant to their everyday lives. In order to enhance these devices and make them as accessible as possible, color pictures would help the students to visualize and understand what they are trying to say. A color printer would enhance our students' lives in several ways and could change the way I teach everyone.
