Help me give my students a large collection of books to help them think and talk about race, racism and acceptance.
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Morrell's classroom raised $265

My Students
My school is nestled in the middle of a city filled with diversity. My students come from families of different race, culture, socioeconomic status, family structure and more. My students bring this rich diversity into the classroom everyday.
My students are curious, open-minded, compassionate and thoughtful.
They are fearless when it comes to learning and are ready to hear and challenge ideas. These students bring a passion to learning that I admire.
My Project
These books will continue to enhance the print-rich classroom that I strive to create, but in the most important way. These books will give my classroom library depth and will allow students to think deeper about race and acceptance. It is time that our classroom libraries reflect the values we want in our students. All of the books I have chosen were recommendations from teachers of color or from elementary librarians. I will use these books to spark important conversations about humanity and students will be able to continue reading them from our classroom library.
With these books, my students will be able to read about important, heavy topics like race, racism and acceptance in light, kid-friendly language while still engaging in the important conversations.
