My Students

Henry Ford once said, "If everyone is moving forward together, then success takes care of itself." Right now, technology is moving forward and leaving our students behind!

Our students are some of the most caring teenagers you will ever meet.

Whether it's raising money for a classmate or community member battling cancer or cheering at a sporting event, these students always amaze me with their generosity and kindness. Many of our students enter high school not thinking college is an option for them, and it is our job to prove to them that college is within their reach. We must make sure that our students have the academic and personal skills to be successful in a post-secondary setting. These kind-hearted individuals will go far in life, and it's important we give them every opportunity available.

My Project

Having 10 Chromebook computers in the classroom will open many doors for students. On some days, we will break the class into smaller groups, with one group working collaboratively to review a previous topic, a second group learning new material with the teacher, and a third group using the Chromebooks to research real-life applications or utilize our online math program that provides individual enrichment and/or remediation. Other days, small groups can use Chromebooks to create a presentation to share with the class. Students will be able to use Chromebooks to research, brainstorm, collaborate, and even interact with professionals that use math in their respective fields. While many students come to school knowing how to 'google' something, very few understand how to truly research or use a computer in the academic or professional world. We need to give students the opportunity to practice, and having 10 Chromebooks in the classroom will give students the chance they deserve.

Students' learning experiences should not be confined to what happens inside the classroom walls.

But, right now, that is exactly what is happening. Our students view math as only the problems they do in class - it has absolutely no connection to the real-world. By bringing in Chromebooks, we are breaking down the walls and giving today's students, tomorrow's leaders, the access and ability to explore math in the real-world that they deserve.
