Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Each day, my students face challenges before they enter the school building, ranging from extreme poverty, single-parent households where the parent works multiple jobs, students with incarcerated parents, and many students who live in shelters. 

Two of my most wonderful students lost everything in their home to a fire and need everything.

My Project

I am a middle school social worker in the South Bronx with a particularly sad story about two of my students.

Recently the home of the students had an electrical fire and they lost all of their belongings.

Fortunately everyone in the home escaped safely.

These students have been in-person learners up until this tragedy. They have been moved to a shelter with their mother far away from the school and therefore will have to become remote learners. This is unfortunate for many reasons, especially since the girls brightened up our school with their positive energy everyday.

I have requested clothing and sneakers for them to wear. I only wish there was more that I could do to help my students.
