Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This class consists of 25 students of diverse backgrounds. I am lucky to have an almost equal ratio of Arabic speakers, Spanish speakers, Chinese speakers, and English speakers. I enjoy the variety of cultures and experiences that the students bring to our community. They all receive free lunch.

My Project

We have started our nonfiction unit of study in the class, but are limited to out of date print texts that don't relate to or engage many students.

As the world and our class use more and more digital print to share knowledge and ideas, our class would like the chance to begin learning about or world through a digital subscription to Time for Kids.

Most of us use digital media through our phones and tablets. I would like to teach kids how to navigate these types of texts in the classroom.

Time for Kids will help our students access current event topics, learn from cutting-edge stories about sciences, and the world.
