My Students

I am so blessed to teach 22 of the hardest working students in my community. My students come to school prepared to learn, excited to make connections and discoveries, ready to try new things, and with a smile on their face. As a teacher, I am a firm believer in work hard, play hard. We have this motto in our classroom. My students work very hard to understand, grow, learn, and flourish in my classroom. But, we don't forget to celebrate our accomplishments too. During my years of teaching, I have also discovered that no two students are alike and it is my job as an educator to adapt my curriculum and instruction to meet the needs of all of my students.

My Project

I am so excited to tell you about a new adventure in my classroom! After careful research and self reflection, I have decided to incorporate Flexible Seating into my second grade classroom. The idea of Flexible Seating is very different from anything I have implemented in my classroom before.

The concept of Flexible Seating is revolutionary to education.

Rather then confining students to traditional tables and chairs, teachers give students many different seating options. Students will try out the different seating options and then find a few that will work best for them.

I have already implemented flexible work spaces in my classroom including high desks for those students who like to stand while working and low tables for students who like to stretch out. However, I need additional furniture pieces to make this concept successful. For my active students, I need stools that will allow them to wiggle and wobble while they work. For my low tables, I need super-comfy Soft Seats so students can rest comfortably on the floor. For my students who struggle staying focused, I need chair fidget bands so they can have movement while they sit.

As a teacher, I am passionate about teaching math, science, and language arts core curriculum with fidelity. However, if my students are not focused, they will not fully grasp the curriculum. I want Flexible Seating to transform my classroom. I want to look out into my classroom and see happy and engaged students. I want my students to be more focused because they are learning to channel their energy into a productive way.
