This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are bursting with energy and creativity and imagination as they constantly look for different ways to see the world. They know a good story deserves excellent writing that makes great reading.
They bring their own stories from all the NYC boroughs, from their families of multiple ancestries, from their experiences as people of color, and from the streets where they learned to dream.
They can see glimmers of their own selves or others they know in the lives of the characters they read.
My Project
One of the keys to success in my classroom is providing my students with a variety of avenues to express the way they make meaning of literature. One increasingly popular way students are choosing to do this is through creating short films inspired by what we are reading and studying. Their ideas are fast paced and inspiring and will benefit with the sturdiness and capabilities of GoPro cameras.
A top of the line MacBook Air for the classroom will allow students continual access to video editing software.
This is key in a building where resources are limited and the reliability of shared computers can make high quality editing difficult. The level of media literacy rises with each year, and I want my students to have access to express their learning in a multitude of ways.
