My Students

Our students use computers or iPads almost every day. They use them for everything from math and spelling games to creating online stories to using interactive Science and Social Studies websites. We use technology in almost every subject at least once a week.

My students come from lifestyles that do not always give them access to a wide range of technology.

At this point our school is able to give them a significant amount of exposure and we try to use technology as often as possibly appropriate. The students work hard to practice everything things such as multiplication, reading, typing and spelling using technology. Although technology is not always appropriate, we try our best to give students frequent opportunities to interact with it.

My Project

To be in a classroom that is silent other than the sound of keys clicking on a computer because every student is working on improving a certain skill using interactive technology is amazing! My students will be able to use these headphones to do just that. They will be able to develop their reading skills using an interactive website, practice their spelling words through online spelling games, improve their typing skills, increase their multiplication accuracy and discover Science and Social Studies. Over the past few years I, along with the teachers I work with, have been able to find great online activities for our students to practice a wide range of skills.

Last year our class ran out of working headphones and every time the students were assigned an online assignment it was chaos trying to hunt down headphones in desks or borrowing from other teachers and then remembering which ones had to be returned.

My hope is that this year, with a new set of headphones for each student, we will be able to use our time more effectively and students will be able to get to work immediately instead of struggling to simply find headphones before getting started.
