Students Can Learn About STEM by Reading Graphic Novels
Help me give my students access to high-quality science graphic novels! A good collection of graphic novels appeals to young students who might otherwise be reluctant to explore the library.
The students that visit my elementary school library are a diverse group of students. Many of our these students do not have access to books at home, so our school library (in addition to their classroom library) is the only place where they can go to borrow books for pleasure and for learning. They call the library, their "happy place." Hearing that makes my heart sing. They bring their excitement with them when they visit the library to see what new books have arrived!
All children deserve access to the magic of reading.
My Project
The students in our school are eager to learn and love graphic novels. This series of science graphic novels contains topics of high interest for our students that will help to increase their world knowledge. I am always looking to increase our students access to high quality books, yet due to limited funds, it is difficult to get the best books in their hands!
These books range in topics, but the format will help engage our students, especially reluctant readers, and excite them as they learn about these scientific concepts.
Graphic novels are very popular with boys and girls and represent great reading material for English Language Learners (ELL), for speakers of other languages (ESOL) students and reluctant readers.
Combining visual art with literary and cinematic techniques allows for innovative and stimulating story lines in which students can engage. Graphic novels promote oral and visual literacy, as well as a love for reading.
A good collection of graphic novels appeals to students who might otherwise be reluctant to explore the library. Please help me build our collection of science graphic novels!
