Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are energetic and resilient middle school students who are getting ready for high school and beyond. They are curious, passionate and full of life. Many of our students face difficulties such as trauma, poverty, and come from neighborhoods with high levels of crime. Some are newcomers to this country and many are second language learners. The majority are Latino and African American.

As a teacher-librarian, it is a priority for me to help my students find that book that speaks to them, inspires them and changes them.

I firmly believe that there is a life-changing book out there for everyone. Reading will help my students reach their goals and meet their potential in life. I have the opportunity to support literacy programs at the school, promote reading, advocate for students, and work with teachers and students to support and enrich students' learning.

My Project

Students often come to the library and request a specific book that we do not have. Due to lack of funding, we are sometimes unable to purchase new and current books for our library. Since the beginning of this school year, I have compiled a student wish list and it is MY wish to acquire all of these books for my students.

When a student is actively seeking a specific book, I have an amazing opportunity to support and encourage them in reading.

I take that opportunity very seriously and do everything I can to find the book they want. To place a student's requested book into their hands is one of the most amazing parts of my job as a librarian.

The books requested in the project will go directly into the hands of students who are eager to read them!
