Photography and yearbook design are best left to big companies...NOT at our school! Here, our students, our school, are the creators and doers of our ideas. We are an urban school on the south coast of Massachusetts and we serve students with social and emotional support needs. We are a Title 1 school and struggle to find funding for projects especially those that may be sourced by a parent support organization. Due to the privacy of our students, we create our yearbook in school and have it in print by the district printing department. As technology has changed we have failed to keep pace with having the proper tools for the trade.
We want to put the privilege and joy of photography in the hands of our students.
We want to give back the role of photographer to the students in the pictures. The benefits are endless: self expression, design, capturing those special moments, learning a technical skill, to name a few.
Our Yearbook Committee is looking for a facelift. We have no cameras for students to use at this time, nor do we have similar remote technology as we do not allow students to have their phones while in our building. We are looking to have gain funding for two digital cameras and a backdrop for individual school photos. With these cameras we can place responsibility, accountability and fun into the hands of our Yearbook Committee students.
