This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The calming and sensory items I've selected for my project are intended to support the social and emotional well-being of my 7th/8th grade students who are struggling with different adolescent issues and traumas. It is easier for them to share and reflect if we are playing a game or coloring an interesting image. These activities assist them in processing their stress and angst.
Based on the use of these objects and the student's ability to share deep-seated feelings and fears, students learn more about themselves, learn how manage their emotions and discover ways to achieve their personal goals.
As you know, middle school can be a very challenging time in a young person's life. Being able to relate to and confide in a caring adult enables them to see life more clearly and realistically. They gain insights into future possibilities and what those futures could entail....all adding to increased feelings of hope.
