This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am excited to start the new school year with my new 5th grade through 8th-grade classes. However, since I am new to the school, that means I am starting new with resources. The pandemic has created an environment where learning will be fully virtual this year. I have to get creative introducing myself and building relationships with the 400 students in the school community. All of my young scholars are considered low-income and qualify for free and reduced-price lunch. The pandemic has not made this challenge easier. But, as we all know, children are resilient!

My Project

School is scheduled to be back to in-person learning this fall. Our students need to be equipped this year with the necessary school supplies to return to learning. I plan to fill gallon bags and create individual school packages for students.

The gallon bags will be filled with supplies such as crayons, glue, and markers.

These items can be kept separate for each student, to maintain some of the safety and sharing protocols that have kept our families as safe as possible during the pandemic.

This project also supports the families that are still struggling with financial and job insecurity during the pandemic recovery.
