Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach a virtual self-contained classroom with multi-grade students in Kindergarten, first grade, and second grade.

We reside in a Title I school, which means there is very little funding, yet we have such a high need for supplies!

My students are amazing, unique, loving and energetic little humans! They are vibrant and brave, active and creative. My students have a variety of diagnoses including but not limited to: Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, and Down Syndrome. I have verbal students as well as nonverbal students. All of my students have difficulty with communication skills, social skills, and struggle to process sensory information.

Our class is bare and supplies are minimal. My students deserve the best, and at the very least deserve the items deemed necessary to help them self-regulate, de-stress and provide imperative sensory stimulation.

My Project

As a teacher in a Special Education classroom, it can be challenging to find appropriate grade-level materials for my students.

With these materials, we will be able to create individualized adapted work manipulatives for each of my students to use in school during in school learning days as well as at home for at home learning days.

In my classroom, I need to create curriculum for my students that is individualized to meet their needs where one size does not fit all and our classroom being so diverse!

I generally need to create multiple curriculum. My students don’t always have a nice strong foundation of basic so I may need to build those up before moving on to more complex concepts. This means more books to create and more resources needed.
