Student Scientists Seek Some Sorely Sought-After Supplies!

My project needs enough hands-on science materials (such as ammeters, voltmeters, bulbs, copper wire, clips, battery holders, etc.) that comes in two class sets for 60 students to investigate the intricacies of electricity and electric circuits.

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Katzen's classroom raised $382

Hello! I am a 4th grade teacher at a low-performing school in the SF Bay Area, CA. We are a Title 1 school, which means that more than 50% of our children receive free or reduced-priced lunches, because of financial need and low socio-economic status. This has a huge impact on the kids' lives, meaning that many of them do not have basic school supplies. It also impacts the teachers, in that we receive very few school funds or donations from parents with which to purchase classroom supplies. I love science, and I truly believe that children who are well-educated in science will be able to succeed in our technologically-evolving world. I have a deep passion for teaching, and will do whatever I can to make sure my students receive the richest and most rigorous education possible, despite their families' financial difficulties. Our physical science unit about electricity is coming up soon, and I want my students to have hands-on experiences with building circuits and forming their own conclusions about how electrical concepts work. To do this, we need materials. The materials available at our school are either old, broken, or missing. There are not enough supplies to give my students (there are about 60 kids in all... I teach science to my class as well as another 4th grade class) with the type of learning experience they need to have in order to fully comprehend the subject of electricity. It is for this reason that I am asking a generous donor to contribute two class sets of electricity materials (bulbs, batteries, ammeters, voltmeters, copper wire, clips, etc.) to my students. We will use these materials during our 8-week investigation of electricity and electrical current. By contributing, you can give underprivileged students the chance to experience quality hands-on learning and learn scientific principles that will help them succeed later in life.
