My Project
Work-based learning (WBL) is an educational approach that connects classroom learning to real-world work experiences, providing students with the skills and knowledge needed for future careers. It involves structured opportunities for students to interact with employers, patrons, to build awareness, explore careers, and prepare for future jobs. Students in my Mild/Moderate High School Special Day Class would like to open up a Student Run Enterprise, serving breakfast sandwiches to staff members. A refrigerator will help keep their ingredients fresh and waste less products. A breakfast sandwich maker will assist in cooking and assembling breakfast sandwiches easily. The air fryer will be used so we can add crispy hash browns to the menu.
With our student run enterprise, students will not only gain skills to become employed, but they will also be learning life and adaptive living skills.
Students will create grocery lists and shop for ingredients and supplies out in the community. They will work on financial literacy through collecting payments and making change. Using these small appliances will increase their independence because they will be learning how to make food items at home.
