Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
What I love most about my students is their resilience and authenticity. Every day, they show up with unique strengths, perspectives, and a willingness to try—even when things are challenging. They often express joy in the little things, and their growth, both academically and socially, is incredibly rewarding to witness. There's a special bond we form in a special education setting; we celebrate small victories that others might overlook, and those moments are deeply meaningful.
One way I support their learning is through a behavioral reward system, and yes—snacks are a part of that.
For many of my students, having clear, consistent incentives helps create structure and motivation. Snacks are immediate, tangible rewards that they understand and value. Whether it’s a bag of chips, a granola bar, or a piece of fruit, the promise of a snack can encourage focus, task completion, and positive behavior.
More importantly, this system helps build trust. My students learn that their efforts are seen and appreciated. Over time, they also begin to develop internal motivation and improved self-regulation skills. The goal isn't just about the snack—it's about reinforcing positive habits, building confidence, and creating an environment where they feel safe and supported enough to learn and take risks.
In short, snacks are a simple tool with a big impact. And my students? They’re the reason I show up every day, ready to give them my best.
