My students need books such as Dragon Ball Z, All the Bright Places, and A Work in Progress.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The school library serves many purposes: a safe place, a place for information, a place to for schoolwork and study, and of course, a place to get introduced to entire worlds through books.
Our students are 70% Hispanic and 30% Asian, all either immigrants or from first generation families.
Our school is very in tune with the community it is part of and the types of lives from which our students come. We have set up our programs at school to both serve students and their families in a way that is practical for them, and that will allow them to grow beyond the community.
My Project
I set up a suggestion box at the circulation desk in the library asking students to write which books they would like to see in our library and I would do my best to procure those items for them. This is their library, here to service them, what better way to gain readers than provide them with materials they themselves are requesting?
The books I am requesting are chosen by our students.
They are either continuations of series that they have read over and over, or books missing from a series that has gaps which they are enamored of, or books that are hugely popular and the copies we have are either always checked out or mysteriously permanently missing.
Providing students with books they're asking for is going to encourage them as readers and perhaps even get some of their not as avid friends to join in.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
