Help me give my students books and other classroom supplies that will boost their learning while recognizing and appreciating their identities and differences!
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Children spend a considerable amount of time in their classrooms, yet their unique identities, abilities, lifestyles, and cultures are not always visible in the materials they have access to at school. It will always be my goal that each of my students feels seen, heard, and celebrated. This project will help me to achieve this goal and ensure that each of my students is represented within our classroom community.
The books that children are exposed to within a classroom should be accessible and include authentic representations of the children within that learning environment, as well as others who are unlike themselves.
The books I am requesting will help me to continue the expansion of my library to ensure all students have access to books at their reading levels and books that include representations of themselves, as well as expose them to differences within their own school, communities, and around the world. Having a bookcase that can easily display these books will help these titles to take center stage and contribute to creating a safe and welcoming classroom environment. Similarly, students are often asked to draw themselves. Typically, boxes of crayons only include two colors that could be used to depict a skin tone. Giving students a box of multicultural crayons that have a variety of skin tones will allow them to authentically portray themselves in their artwork. Lastly, tokens such as stickers and pencils, are incredibly helpful in boosting engagement, and increasing learning, and are always greatly appreciated by the students!
The materials I am requesting will make a significant difference in my second-grade scholars' education and experience at school. Thank you for supporting my classroom and helping me to create a learning environment that is centered around equity, inclusion, and engagement!
