My Students
I am the sixth and seventh-grade math teacher at my school. My students are curious, well-rounded young learners who strive to be pushed by new and exciting lessons and learning opportunities.
With the common core shift in education, my students' ability to conceptualize mathematics concepts can sometimes feel overwhelming.
While my students are very intelligent and come to class every day with so many experiences in their back pockets, making real-world connections to mathematics can sometimes be difficult for them.
When applying for high school in my city, my students must be prepared to compete with other applicants in our area. My job is to help them become critical thinkers and active participants in their learning.
My Project
If given an opportunity to have an iPad in class, my classroom will transform from a teacher-centered environment into a learning environment that has the potential to make learning mathematical concepts tangible. With this iPad, I would be able to have students demonstrate their method for solving problems at their desks while wirelessly displaying the work on my SMART board. Students can take notes and share their work with each other with AirDrop. This would be an amazing tool for students who are absent and cannot attend school, or even to show stellar examples of student thinking!
