This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This project contains supplies for a student who is motivated about her work and passions.

Mechista Magazine is a student created and ran project at High Tech High with a first-of-its-kind mission to create a magazine to create a space where students of color, primarily Latinx students, are celebrated and empowered.

It was first published at the end of last year as a small project, but this year High Tech High MEChA wants to expand to students outside of MEChA and their families. We are a completely self-funded project, and it is our responsibility to collect or fund all the materials we will need in order to print the magazine. Helping us through our Amazon Wishlist would alleviate the financial burden of creating a high-quality printed product.

Our team focuses more on the stories of those in the San Diego community rather than global news. Sections from last year's magazine, like our "Student Highlight" and "Mesa College MEChA" focus on stories here in the San Diego area centered around the Latinx community. These two sections of the magazine showcase the talents and self-ran businesses of students at HTH along with reporting on a collaboration between the Logan Memorial Educational Campus and Mesa College MEChA to build an ofrenda for Día de los Muertos.
