My Students
Our students at P.S./I.S. 48 learn in a New York City pre-kindergarten through 8th grade school. They come from very diverse backgrounds. Over a third of them come from low-income households, and some of them are a part of military families. A significant part of our student body are English Language Learners (ELLs); that is, they are new Americans. The students I teach all have disabilities, as they are a part of a Special Education program.
I've always thought that the elementary and middle school years are a vital time period for children, as this is often when some of them start making the wrong choices.
I became a teacher, in part, to set a good example for children who need role models in their lives. My hope is that I'll have a lasting impact on them.
My Project
I'm requesting winter hats and healthy snacks to give to my students and many of their schoolmates. For several weeks, my students have been enjoying healthy snacks they've acquired from generous donors on DonorsChoose. We've also been sharing our snacks with other students in our school. With your support, we can continue with this practice and also equip many students with a winter hat to keep them warm during these cold NYC days.

At the beginning of this school year, there were some students who did not bring in a snack to have in between breakfast and lunch; this was very tough for them. With your donation, this problem would go away. Our students are the future and you could help them on their path to school success!
