My Project
Project Description:
Our incredible 3rd graders are launching a student-led Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Lunch Club as an act of community service, aimed at supporting their peers during the most unstructured - and often most challenging - part of the day: lunch and recess.
This club will be a safe, welcoming space where students can build friendships, practice mindfulness, and explore their emotions through games, books, and calming activities using the requested materials. Students will take the lead, from choosing activities to setting goals, making it a true community service project that empowers kids to support one another.
The Community:
Our school serves a diverse population, many of whom struggle with emotional regulation, social anxiety, or building connections. These challenges are most visible during lunch and recess, where there's less structure and more opportunity for misunderstandings. Our students want to change that, starting with themselves and working outward to include every grade level.
Through this student-led program, our learners aren’t just growing as individuals, they're stepping up as community leaders. By building empathy, self-awareness, and emotional regulation, they hope to create a ripple effect that extends beyond the classroom, positively impacting their peers, their homes, and the wider neighborhood.
How Your Support Helps:
The supplies we’re requesting will give students the tools they need to lead this effort with confidence. These materials will help them:
- Create a calm, welcoming environment
- Learn and teach self-regulation strategies
- Use books and games to build empathy and connection
- Spread emotional wellness throughout our entire school
These resources will not only strengthen essential SEL skills- they will also give our students a meaningful opportunity to engage in community service. By leading this initiative, students will take an active role in making their school a happier, kinder, and more inclusive place.
