This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
About My Students
Angel and Elijiah wanted to try an iPad mini 4 to use the split screen feature, because it is faster and has a better camera for photographing their artwork each week to their digital portfolio. We hope to be a 1 iPad to 1 student class next year so they won't have to wait to use an iPad again.
These two students love technology and being able to try the latest versions through Donors Choose grants. They choice this model because it is the newest version and has new features the model before it did not have. This is the one class they both have passing grades in and work the entire class. They are both successful with technology and use the freedom in the art room to learn new technology skills that they can use to further their education. Being successful with technology goes a long way in building their self-esteem and knowledge that they can succeed if they try. They are curious, creative and now have the opportunity to try the latest technology in the classroom when they don’t have that opportunity at home.
They will learn and then teach their peers. I rely on peer teaching with classes of 30 students I explained the opportunity and they looked online for ideas about iPads.
These 2 students are successful working with technology and learn quickly. I will have them give a presentation on using the new iPad after they open the package and learn how to use them together. Learning how to use the latest technology is helping them with academic skills. Being successful learning new technology that can be used in an academic class gets them ahead and builds their self-esteem. They aren’t behind. They don’t fail learning and using technology as they are struggling in academic classes.
Being a leader with this new technology and sharing what they know with their peers will boost their self-esteem. They will have to figure out how the iPad works by problem solving and working as a team.
In Their Own Words
The idea is to get a faster iPad so we can complete the rotoscope animation drawing quicker (150 drawings for 15 seconds). The project idea is to get an iPad Mini 4 because it can run 2 screens at once, is faster and has a better camera, and the price of the iPad mini 4 was important. We are making rotoscope line drawing animations with the iPads.
We get to open the package and use it first. Then we will show it to our friends that want to try it.
We will make the most of this leadership opportunity by being good leaders andteaching the other students in the class what we learn and sharing the one iPad Mini 4 with the class. We will learn how to use it first and then any student who wants to learn how, we will show them. It shouldn't be that different than the iPads we have now in the classroom.
We can also show the whole class by reflecting the iPad screen on the Active-board that we have in the classroom.
This project is important to me and the school community because we are learning how to use technology that our school and community would not have otherwise. The community does not have an iPad Mini 4 and the school does not either. The experience we get from using this will be shared with the art classes and future art students who will use the iPad Mini. The problem or challenge this project will solve is the lack of the latest technology at this school.
