My scholars are a creative and innovative group. My goal is to help them realize their potential by cultivating academic excellence and recognizing their individual strengths. While there have been many new challenges this school year as we navigate new ways of learning since the COVID-19 pandemic, my scholars are meeting these challenges with resilience, flexibility, and perseverance.
Our fifth graders are preparing to leave their elementary school days behind as they graduate 5th grade and move on to our middle school wing.
To wish them well, encourage positive behaviors as they finish out the year, and celebrate their years in elementary school, we would like to host a winter dance. As a way to encourage leadership skills and prepare for middle school leadership opportunities such as student council, we would like our fifth grade students to have a role in helping to plan this dance. In addition to the dance itself, they will develop skills in time management, creating a schedule, creating a budget, advertising/ marketing, and more. They will also use art skills and music skills to make sure the gym looks and sounds amazing for their dance!
With this project, scholars will have the basic decor items necessary to create a Winter Wonderland in our gym: fairy lights, tablecloths, photo props, balloons, and other decor items. They will practice all of the skills listed above and more as they plan out the dance space, the set list, the timeline, the budget, and more.
With this dance, not only are scholars getting a wonderful sendoff to middle school, but they are also practicing so many 5th grade skills. It will be so much fun!
