Student Grouping to Increase Learning

My Students

I teach students with moderate intellectual disabilities who have autism, Down Syndrome, Smith-Magenis Syndrome, and other disabilities. We look at the ability rather than the disability. Our students love to learn but need extra effort and support to help them shine. They get so excited when they accomplish and learn new things. They love to help others. They are truly an inspiration to everyone they come in contact with.

Our students are given access to the general education curriculum and also receive functional instruction.

My Project

We will be able to group students for learning in different subject areas. We will be able to move desks around more easily when we need to change groups. These desks are perfect for our classroom. They will allow more space for our students to move around without bumping into each other. The desks have a nice book box attached so students will be able to keep their supplies inside their desks. This will allow for more uninterrupted instructional time. Students can reach inside their desks instead of going to a locker or other area to get supplies they need.
