Student-Created Sensory Space

Help me give my students sensory tools to promote regulation, improve focus, and increase participation, therefore enabling learning because not all students learn the same, nor do they have the same sensory needs.

My Students

The students at my school generally come from low economic backgrounds. Most students crave that extra support from other adults around the school. Also, these students need some extra guidance academically, behaviorally, and/or socially.

As a special education teacher, I have the opportunity to work with students in a smaller group setting to give my students that extra support they need academically, behaviorally, and/or socially.

I am in a fortunate situation to be able to meet each of my student's individual needs. I am also fortunate to be able to help each of my students to experience that feeling of accomplishment that every child wants to achieve.

My Project

Our school is creating a sensory room to help students self-regulate their emotions in a safe space. In our student created sensory room, we need flexible seating, fidget toys, oral motor sensory input, a calming corner, and visuals.

Sensory equipment is designed to help students concentrate effectively and create an environment of a well-designed sensory room to enhance focus.

This is an important skill for students to develop so they can cope with real-world environments where calm and concentration is key.

Having these materials in our sensory room creates a safe place and promotes self-organization and positive change. These materials needed contain specific sensory equipment for self-regulation activities designed to alleviate sensory processing difficulties.
