A few times each month, student council hosts a popcorn fundraiser. I use the term "fundraiser" loosely. We don't make much money, as we sell the popcorn for only 25 cents per bag. We keep this event going because the students and teachers look forward to it. I love the vibe in the building on Popcorn Day. It seems to put everyone - students and teachers - in a good mood.
This project won't only help with school morale.
We use this fundraiser to teach valuable life skills to our student council members. They take care of everything and stay at school late on Popcorn Days. They make the popcorn, and after each sale they must dismantle the machine to thoroughly clean it. We usually have one student take charge of the "salt station." This student must speak with customers and ask if they want salt on their popcorn. Other students collect money and give change. All of the student council members must interact with our customers and speak clearly and politely.
The purpose of this DonorsChoose project is to refill our popcorn-making supplies. We are completely out of popcorn and salt, and we only have a little oil left. We need supplies to keep the tradition going this school year.
