This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students have a special place in my heart and play a big role in my life. They are the reason I still teach and why I will continue to teach this population. My students are amazing young adults who struggle with managing their emotions due to troubled pasts, their home environments, and other factors. Despite all of their challenges, both behaviorally and academically, they shine with the right type of support and expectations. All my students want to do well, but they believe they cannot because they have been told that their whole lives.

What I love most about my students, is their tenacity.

Every day they get up and come to school knowing that today may not be an easy day. Many things are difficult for my students (social interactions, decision making, grade-level academics, handling conflict, etc.). However, they want to do better and strive to be the people we believe them to be.

My Project

Social-emotional learning is something that every classroom should practice. My students came up with the idea of creating our own "student closet" for any student to come and get what they need. When they suggested this I thought it was create way to foster empathy, and problem-solving in our classroom.

We have a backroom in our building that our class would like to turn into a space where students on campus can get what they need when they need it.

The clothing racks, hangers, and shelves would be used to sort, and display the clothing for students to easily access.
