This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

COVID has had the biggest impact on my students. My current 4th graders were in Kindergarten when COVID began and they spent the next few years in and out of virtual learning during their core years as a student (1-3). A lot of my students developed sensory and movement needs due to being at home and not in a school structure for so long.

My students NEED movement and choices in the classroom.

That is why this flexible seating and library project is so important to us as a class. I have students who need to be able to move around the classroom to focus, for example being able to sit on our carpet for sensory needs, getting closer to the board, stretching their legs, getting out of their seats in general. Flexible seating is so important for student because most of the time all a student needs is a little movement or change of pace to get them focused and successful!

Our classroom library consists of whatever I can find with my own money. My students are always reading and love Goosebumps and Diary of a Wimpy Kid books, but I only have a few in my library so having sets of them will get their reading minds even more excited! This project is so important to me and my students and if it is funded it will ensure success!
