We need two pieces of artwork to brighten up and furnish our student center, a bulletin board, a cushioned chair (that would be used by the grief counselor), and 8 folding chairs. Thank you so much for your consideration!
I am a student in a leadership class titled, S.P.I.R.I.T.. We are a very diverse group of students who work together to identify and resolve problems on our campus. Our class includes sophomores to seniors, as well as second semester freshmen. As young leaders we are learning essential skills to help us prepare for college, gain college admittance, succeed in college, and go onto become community leaders. Each of us facilitates the resolution of one project per semester. I am currently working on improving our "Student Center." I am requesting the following items to furnish this center and to improve the ambiance of the “Student Center.” Currently this center is used by students for meetings (small group counseling sessions, club meetings, class meetings, etc). Unfortunately, we are not provided with any funding to furnish this center. We would like to create a comfortable space for all students and even expand the uses of this space center once it is improved. Please help us obtain these needed materials.
As leadership students on campus, we have events (for example: Cultural Food Fair, Anti-Defamation League Training, and Sexual Assault Awareness Day) and provide services that require resources and materials. Unfortunately, we are not provided with the materials that we need, and we have no funding. We simply have no money to get the resources that we need. If we get the money and the materials, we could reach out and help a much larger student base. Unfortunately many families are unable to contribute to improving our school. Currently, 30% of our student population receives free/reduced lunch tickets and we have a considerable amount of students attending Taft who reside in LA (South Central, Korea Town, and East LA).
With the materials, we will be able to furnish our Student Center and create a positive space for those using it. One of the main functions of the Student Center is to host a variety of student support groups (grief group, gay-lesbian group, students attempting to quit using drugs/gangs, students who live with someone using drugs, etc). The current Student Center's furnishings provide no comfort to the students involved in these emotional, support meetings. Honestly it is depressing. By providing artwork, chairs, and other materials, we will be able to show students that we care about them and are trying to provide an appropriate setting for their meetings.
With your help, we can really move forward in our quest to change our school. If we received the needed materials, we would furnish and decorate the Student Center, which provides a meeting space for a variety of student groups. Thank you very much for your consideration, and any donation would be greatly appreciated!
