Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a second grade teacher in the city of Chicago. There are many challenges that face my students each day. My students come from diverse backgrounds and are from low income families. The majority of our families fall below the poverty level.
Despite all of this, I am lucky to be working with a group of students who are eager and motivated to learn.
Their eagerness motivates me to find new ways to improve instruction. The pride and excitement on their faces as they are growing as learners is very rewarding.
My Project
I asked my students what they thought we could use in our classroom. They all responded with books! I absolutely love the fact that my students love to read.
My class requested that we get a set of Dork Diary books and a set of Diary of a Wimpy Kid books.
These books will be a great addition to our classroom library. My students are wonderful readers and I constantly need to be adding new books to our classroom library in order to keep them reading. By giving them books that they really enjoy reading, we are establishing a life long love of reading.
