This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students live in a low-income/high-poverty urban school district. Their experiences are limited. They are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom, with challenges including emotional trauma, a high mobility rate, and many other special needs.
Many of them are being raised in single-parent households, and 99% receive free lunch and breakfast.
My students are 70% Hispanic and 30% African-American. I have several ELL students in my class as well as special needs students. The majority of my students are far below the national and state standards in reading and math.
My Project
The Google Home Max will help transform my teaching to be engaging and motivating for my students.
The voice recognition technology is fun and helpful for both students and teachers.
I would use it to time our math tests, to play trivia games and especially to define vocabulary as we read. The assistant would also be telling us the weather before recess, play audiobooks, and relaxing music.
The assistant would be translating words for my ESL students and describing cultures we are reading about. Google would also be reading poetry for us and making us laugh! My students would really appreciate this fun and educational technology tool in our classroom.
