Help me give my students the joy of Ukuleles! Learning this accessible instrument helps reinforce the skills we learn every day in the music classroom.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
L.O Elementary is a Title I school with a high population of ESL (English as a Second Language) learners. This project will impact 200+ students every year in the music classroom!
Music is one of the few places these students can express themselves without a language barrier.
So much of what we study is through movement and playing instruments, making it the perfect environment for self-expression! Learning the ukulele will provide students the opportunity to learn an affordable stringed instrument while providing the skills necessary to work together in a cohesive group. The music skills we learn about every day (note reading, rhythm fluency, steady beat, goal-oriented tasks, delayed gratification, working together) will transfer perfectly while learning this instrument.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
