Struggling Readers Need Secret Stories to Become Fluent Readers
Help me give my students access to Secret Stories phonics posters, lessons, books, hands on materials, and digital resources to help them become readers!
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach literacy intervention to small groups of struggling readers. I will use Secret Stories and Orton Gillingham materials to enhance my science of reading lessons. My students will be able to access the visuals and stories that make the letters and blends accessible and easier for them to understand and manipulate.
Secret Stories accelerates learner access to the code by shifting instructional emphasis from skill-practice to skill-understanding.
Secret Stories disguises phonics skills as “secrets” to make them important to kids—something that they are curious about and wants to know. This makes them meaningful and relevant, and therefore, easy to teach and learn.
The OG materials provide students with visuals and a way to manipulate and understand letters, sounds, and words. I am requesting two sets of a few things since I have a paraprofessional who will also be using this beneficial materials with our students.
