My Project
I teach Middle School Structured Literacy and Response to Intervention. I work with students on the fundamentals of reading. We target the areas of decoding, fluency, encoding, phonemic awareness, and comprehension. Many students have been receiving extra help for a while and are tired of the same activities in middle school. This project is designed to help us have some fun and incorporate more game elements when doing our activities. For example, instead of just reading the words, the students can read the words and toss a bean bag or shoot a basket. This will keep students engaged and help them have fun in school. In addition, this project is designed to help give my students flexible seating and help them maintain attention throughout the school day. Many are tired from sitting in desks all day and need to move around or have a flexible seating. This will make them feel more comfortable and help with their social and mental health.
