Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am proud to teach Kindergarten-3 cross categorical self contained special education in Glendale, AZ. We have limited access to the district adopted curriculum; therefore, the requested items would truly enhance my students' exposure to quality literature.

My students genuinely want to become super star readers! We have the unique opportunity to build upon my students' intrinsic motivation to become stronger, more informed readers! My students would like to learn beyond their limited exposure to the outside world and that is just what quality non-fiction and multicultural literature and supporting materials will provide for them!

I need quality non-fiction readers and multicultural literature in order to provide strong literacy instruction to my students during guided reading each day. In order to help my students make 1.5 years of growth this year, I need to ensure that my students are exposed to culturally relevant and appropriate non-fiction materials. Our classroom will benefit from having story wands, comprehension strategy charts and a non-fiction pocket chart because each will enhance the learning centers students rotate through each day. The materials will support my students' individual education plan goals because the books will supplement comprehension, build print schema, enhance reading fluency and help students identify important components within a story.

You can ensure that my students with special needs will be given the equal access to materials they need and deserve! I can assure you that the materials will be put to good use and will be incredibly appreciated by my wonderful students. You can make it possible for my students to take learning experiences beyond the classroom, which is part of our mission as super star students!
