My students need violin and cello strings, shoulder rests, a tuner, and a metronome to keep our new orchestra program running smoothly.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students attend a public kindergarten through eighth grade public school in a high poverty urban community in New Jersey. They love music class and are great musicians. Even though we don't have a budget for new materials, we find creative ways to make music together.
Thanks to a donation from VH1, our school has received all the instruments we need to create a string orchestra!
This is a huge improvement to our music program and the students could not be more thrilled. However, we need to supplement these instruments with extra strings and more to keep our orchestra going.
My Project
My students have been so excited to get beautiful violins and cellos. They are now part of a small orchestra that our music program hopes to build and expand upon each year. However, we were not given crucial supplies like extra strings.
Receiving these new violin and cello strings will make it possible for me to replace the strings the same day my students break them.
Stringed instruments are sensitive and although we only began this program a few weeks ago, we've already had some string casualties. It would make a world of difference if we had a supply of extra strings in my music classroom and string breakage did not cause a pause in a student's learning.
