I teach at a beautiful school in North Miami where my students are high poverty and high risk. Many of my students have never had the opportunity to play an instrument.
I have decided that a recorder and string program would be the best solution as these instruments are lower in volume, can easily be transported and the nature of this instrument would appeal and be appropriate for my younger students.
For my violin program, I plan to implement what is called the "Suzuki Method" as this is the most appropriate for younger students. Suzuki based his approach on the belief that "Musical ability is not an inborn talent but an ability which can be developed Any child who is properly trained can develop musical ability, just as all children develop the ability to speak their mother tongue. The potential of every child is unlimited."
My Project
Your contribution (violins and extra sets of violin strings) towards the expansion of our after school string program would enhance my students' lives as they would have the opportunity to become budding musicians. Donations to this request will impact more students who will be afforded the opportunity of performing in anticipated numerous shows and events in the next school year.
I also believe, like Suzuki, that the potential of every child is unlimited; therefore your assistance in this project will unleash each child's greatness!
