This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This digital course will cover the historical significance and major contributions of concert bands in America, and how these bands inspire the educational bands of today.

The goal of this professional development is to inspire today's band directors to learn more about the heritage and tradition of concert bands in the United States.

The weekly zoom sessions feature well-known guest speakers that will bring historical presentations, stories, context, and modern connections to help teachers understand how they can navigate their school band programs through program development, repertoire choice, and leadership from the podium. The topics include Sousa, the US Marine Band, the history of school bands, the influence of Japanese bands, and more. I am really excited to learn more about these topics, which will lead me to a better understanding of the roles concert and marching bands play in American society.
