This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Although my students live in one of the most socioeconomically depressed areas in LA, they are full of energy and creativity. Dance classes at FHS focus on introducing students to several dance forms and developing their ability and confidence with each movement style. We will study the movement and history of jazz, ballet, modern, contemporary, and partner dances (Salsa, Waltz, or Lindy Hop alternating semesters). Students have the opportunity to create their own dances using their own movement vocabulary and what we learn in class.

Dance is an art form but it is also a way to stay fit and live a healthy, active life.

Help students have access to the tools for stretching and strengthening their bodies. Therabands come in several resistance ratings and are useful tools to help students gain strength and flexibility at their own speed and level. I would love to have rolls of Therabands that can be individually cut to the proper length for each student. Students will use their band throughout the semester both in class and at home.
