Help me give my students ways to calm down and keep engaged coming back into school for hybrid learning. I am hoping the stress balls and slime will give fidgety kids something to do.
I teach in a charter school in an inner city. For some of my students, the safest place for them is in school. I try to create a warm and inviting environment; a safe and caring classroom environment is very important to me.
My students are special to me because I get to expose them to things they have never seen or done before.
I try to bring in ideas and objects that are new and exciting.
I try to create a sense of community in my classroom. I try to get to know my students on a personal level. I want to connect and have them feel safe, then we can begin learning together.
My Project
I teach in an urban setting where students are living stressful lives. Students are coming back into the building, but will need to stay at their desks all day, no moving around. I want to give students opportunities to be engaged while staying at their desks all day.
I am requesting slime and stress balls so "busy" students have something to do with their hands.
I am requesting coloring books and coloring pencils so students have a way to be creative while waiting at their desks.
I want to reward my students for good behaviors by letting them create "desk pets". Good behaviors will get small animal erasers they can add to a habitat they keep at their desks.
