About My Students
The group of juniors spearheading this project understand their testing anxiety gets in the way of their performance. They are taking action to manage their anxiety and improve their results!
I have a basket of stress toys and the students love to play with them during my 8th-period prep. The students who stay during 8th period choose to on their own in order to prep for their state exams. They are always asking me to get more stress toys and thus this project was born and later developed into a full on test prep project.
State exams are an integral part of the education system whether we like it or not. Our students have grown up in a climate where standardized test define the student. As a result of high-stakes testing, many of my students have developed testing anxiety. Learning to manage stress and prepare themselves for exams are invaluable academic and social-emotional skills for the present and the future.
In Their Own Words
We are trying to prepare for our June Regents exams so we can pass and graduate! We need materials to help us; annotate, study, create study packets and stress balls to help manage our stress, keep us focused, and keep us awake when we are pushing through 8th period
We will bring our project to life, by spreading the word to our classmates about the resources we have to help them pass their June state exams. We believe that if our peers know we have materials, (paper, flashcards, stress toys, high-lighters, etc.) all provided for their use, they will come to 8th period. As a result it will make studying more enjoyable, more accessible, and all of our scores will increase.
This project is important to us and our school because we believe having these resources will help us and our classmates pass our exams. It is also important to us because we are taking ownership of our futures and supporting our classmates in taking ownership of theirs.
