My Students
I teach kindergarten at an urban school. My students have limited or no exposure to technology at home for a number of reasons. Our day begins when they enter the classroom and move through the morning routine which exposes them to the INO board in the classroom. The students love technology!
All of my kindergarten students enter the classroom eager to learn and be exposed to every aspect of learning.
They get really excited when this is done with technology. Our school is located in the inner city and many students come through our school because other schools are full or cannot handle the students with problem behaviors. My belief is that regardless of the socioeconomic circumstance or background of these students, they are entitled to a quality education.
Since we are a world driven by technology, it is important to stay current and provide these students with an opportunity to use this technology in order to be successful. We have a number of education programs that we use at school; however, the number of laptops and resources are very limited.
I have been given several laptops that are missing keys on the keyboard or make loud noises which scare my students. It is my hope to get 5 tablets that my students can use in tandem with the laptops that we have.
My Project
My kindergarten students will use these tablets to enhance their learning with the literacy programs provided by the school. These additional technological resources will enhance the kindergarten students' ability to learn letters and letter sounds. This will lead to the ability to blend and build phonological awareness. This is imperative in order for them to read. Improved reading will lead to increased student performance.
The new tablets will mainly be used during centers; however, with the increase number of tablets, more students will have access to the learning programs to motivate the students in the classroom and make learning fun. If our classroom receives these tablets, the students will learn how to read! What is more exciting than that?
Donations will improve my kindergarten students' lives because they will be given the opportunity to be exposed to a technological resource that is limited or nonexistent in their households.
As a kindergarten teacher, my mission is to help build the strongest foundation for my students. This foundation sets an important precedent as they move up through school. If the students can be provided with the tools to help them be successful and build literacy then they will go all the way to the top.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
