This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I love my job! I get to work with amazing coworkers and incredible students all day long. As the reading coach for our school, I support all our beginning readers from transitional kindergarten to fifth grade, in their biliteracy process of both Spanish and English.
In order to best support my ELL learners, I am seeking to grow and develop the reading intervention program at this charter school and diversify our decodable/ phonics leveled texts for our library and a reading center cart/whiteboard.
For the reading intervention program, I need an easel with a whiteboard for lessons and a side for note taking paper and anchor charts. This easel has 4 drawers in which I can sort and put my leveled texts for all my different reading small groups. This mobile reading/writing center will allow me to teach targeted lessons with a phonics focus and allow children to apply the new skills with a phonics-embedded text which is why I need to expand my decodable library for all my beginning readers. I will use magnet letters to help children have manipulatives for spelling and sounding out new words. I aspire for each child to feel confident and appropriately challenged while they develop their literacy skills.
With these materials, I will implement small group instruction, completing phonics activities and coaching my students to read and comprehend new texts. I strive to empower every student reach grade-level reading expectations. These resources are research-based for reading intervention and based on the science of reading.
