My classroom of second graders love to learn, but their reading skills and levels often are major obstacles on their quest for learning!
The students at our school live in a very tough neighborhood and frequently don't have enough support at home to help them succeed at reading.
But these students love to learn, and I want to help show them that they can be great and that they can succeed at reading! Although we are provided with a reading curriculum at our school, it doesn't really have the resources necessary to differentiate to the wide range of reading levels in my classroom. I have students who can barely read and students who are reading at a kindergarten level, as well as students who are reading as high as a third grade level.
My Project
These leveled reading library materials are exactly what my students need to succeed! This particular set has five books each at every level between kindergarten and 4th grade reading levels. During time when they are done with assignments, during small group reading time, and during our daily workshop time, these books will enable my students to get more individualized practice with reading at their level and help them build fluency and comprehension with books that are perfectly aligned to their reading level. These skills will help them continue to grow as readers for the rest of the year, not just in reading, but also in other subject areas and on their standardized tests. As their reading level grows, so will their success and level of understanding in every other subject!
These skills will help them continue to grow as readers for the rest of the year, not just in reading, but also in other subject areas and on their standardized tests.
Reading skills are so valuable, and by improving their reading skills and giving them access to so many quality resources, you will be helping them achieve beyond the expectations of this neighborhood and help them reach new heights!
