My Students
I am the library media specialist in a school of just over 1300 students. I am in love with the diversity and personalities of all my students. My students work hard everyday to be the best versions of themselves, and rely on me to find windows and doors to other worlds-both the familiar and not-so-familiar.
They are exuberant, creative, and vivacious and they inspire me to work my hardest every day.
I have athletes, nerds, scholars, romantics, and clowns of all colors that come to mingle in the space I provide for them.
My Project
Reading has been shown as an indicator of how well someone will do later in life. Our school library currently has barely enough books to support the size of our population, but we still have some voracious readers. This collection of books will help me both to support the readers I have as well as to entice some new readers. Over the last year and a half I have worked to increase representation for those students who typically don't see characters that look like them. I have focused on including Black, Latinx, Women, LGBTQ, and Asian voices into the collection. The books in this project area mix of extensions to some of my most loved areas and new stories that feature strong Black main characters.
