My Students

Each year we have more and more students who have families struggling to make it and who often have to move in with relatives after a job loss. Many also come from military families. The students at our school really want to make good choices and we have a staff that is working to help guide students. Our staff continually goes above and beyond to help their students. The school is based on the idea that we are all part of the same team, and we work towards helping all students. Almost 100 percent of certified staff work as mentors during their personal time to give students who need extra help the attention they need, whether it is an academic or a personal need. We are working hard to make sure our students are prepared for the future. We have added a MakerSpace and are now working to extend our STREAM clubs.

My Project

Helen Keller stated "The highest result of education is tolerance". Schools across the nation are embracing the STREAM movement to educate students in Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering Arts, and Math. A year ago I worked to develop a STREAM club at our school. It exceeding all my expectations, and brought about new challenges. We also now have a yearly STREAM /Career Day.

Students of today have grown up in a society stressing competition and becoming the best.

As students work collaboratively together, I have noticed that there are many skills they are developing. We have K-5 students, equal number of boys and girls, and many different ethnic backgrounds are represented. The students need to work together as they learn from each other. As students master a skill, they share it with others. This take learning to work with tolerance for those that are younger/older, of a different gender, or from a different ethnic background.

Our STREAM club and Maker Space needs some additional materials to help complete some the learning stations. The OSMO kits will work with our current sets, but extend the learning they have started. We need more Snap Circuits and Makey Makey sets to allow a class to work cooperatively in the Makerspace or for the STREAM club to be able to use the materials as a group. On our STREAM/Career day all student get to rotate and work with these great materials.

I am looking forward to expanding our STREAM club to include more students, and believe the interpersonal skills they are learning will allow them become more tolerant in other settings as well.
