My students need an aquarium, filters, lamps, and food to be able to sustain the STREAM Zoo through outside funding to continue to learn about wildlife.

My Students
The students at our school thrive to learn. We are a New York State Title I school, which means a majority of the students that attend come from a poverty-stricken family. The parents of our students want the very best for their children but look for the support and guidance of our school. Unfortunately, many of the parents work 2 or more jobs and therefore there is minimal parent involvement.
I want to support the students' eagerness to learn, and thus why am writing this proposal to enhance and grow our new STREAM (Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) Program through science and engineering.
Students are learning about animals, life cycles, food chains, animals' impact on the environment and animal care in our STREAM Zoo.
My Project
Funding support will enable the STREAM (Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) Zoo to continue operating and support the student's growth in animal and wildlife education. Students have the opportunity to learn about animal habitats, life cycles, food chain, breeding, various animal and animal care through the STREAM School Zoo. Students from all grades, Pre-Kindergarten through 5th grade come to the school zoo and have the opportunity to experience and learn through hands-on interaction and exploration. This opportunity, for many of our students, is a wonderful way for them to develop an interest for animal, wildlife and all living things. Exposing students to new experiences opens many opportunities for future interests, studies, college and career readiness.
The STREAM School Zoo currently houses an aquatic frog, a bearded dragon, a corn snake, meal worms and beetles, crickets (for breeding - life cycle), two red eared slider turtles, craw fish and a variety tropical fresh water fish.
The requested funded item will support the continued operation of the school zoo. Within the request, the large tank would house the slider turtles that are currently outgrowing their current home. The filters will replace the ones that are currently on their last life. The other materials, supplies and food will support the health and well-being of the animals in our school zoo.
As mentioned, we are a Title I school. As a result, funding is minimum for non-academic related materials and supplies. Funding for the requested items would provide a great amount of support in sustaining our school zoo. I believe that our functioning school zoo plays a vital role in supporting our students' educational growth and offers a unique opportunity for our students to grow and learn.
