Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Students are struggling with reading homework or independent reading that leaves them interested and wanting to reading more. I want my students to be exposed to a balance of text nonfiction and fiction with stories they can apply to all subject areas.

My students love nonfiction and little facts they like to recite.

They are energetic and eager to learn. My school has supportive parents that will do whatever it takes to make sure their child is successful. Students are filled with respect and appreciation that their neighborhood school strives to raise their thinking.

My Project

I will use the Storyworks text as part of my students independent reading. It has high interest fiction and nonfiction articles that are paired together. Stories connect to Social Studies and Science which will make them easy to integrate into the core classes. Students will read paired texts explore one topic or theme through two or more genres, which will require my students to synthesize, analyze, and make meaningful cross-genre connections.

Storyworks content can be used with engaging quizzes to assess reading, along with activity sheets that will help reinforce the most important reading and language arts concepts, including main ideas, supporting details, cause/effect, paragraph writing, grammar, and many more.

I'll be able to focus on the higher-level thinking skills demanded by Common Core and other rigorous standards.
